El Toro 3 Electronic Ejaculator / Immobiliser

INTRODUCTION

The El Toro 3 features have been carefully selected to provide you with an ideal choice whatever the situation.

Although the El Toro 3 offers so much more than previous machines, this is combined with extreme ease of use allowing you to concentrate your attention on the animal's responses.

When switched On the machine automatically selects Mode 1 which especially in the initial stages of stimulation provides a particularly gentle effect and is the preferred mode in the large majority of cases.
-The animal smoothly becomes accustomed to the stimulation and remains calmer.
-When more powerful stimulation is needed the internal computer smoothly adjusts the signals for a more pervasive effect.

In those cases when a firmer approach is required, Mode 2 can be selected by touching the selector button.
-This mode generates a more pervasive signal with a more powerful effect.

Because immobilisation of the animal is so often needed it has led to the use of ejaculators set at low power for this purpose. The animal quickly becomes tired and stressed due to the high level of muscular tension generated.
-The El Toro 3 Mode IMOB provides a much more specific signal to immobilise the animal and minimise undesirable side effects.

THE FACE PANEL

The On/Off Button.
Pushing this button switches the machine On. A soft beep sound confirms the action.
The next push will switch the machine Off, again with a beep.
-For special order machines having an illuminated display panel, the button must be held pressed until after the beep ends to switch the illumination on.

The Mode Buttons.
Pushing button 1, 2 or I instantly selects the mode. There is no beep sound for these operations.

The Display Panel.
This panel provides 16 positions of information as follows:
-For 3 seconds after switching On or connecting the charger the panel will display "El Toro 3" followed by the individual serial number of the unit.
-When the unit is switched On the left position will display "1" to indicate that Mode 1 is selected.
Other mode selections are displayed as "2" or "IMOB" at the left of the panel.
-If the unit is switched On the positions to the right of the mode indicator will display blocks in the form of a bar graph to indicate the power setting.
-If the unit is switched Off and connected to the charger the display panel will show the word "Charging" followed by a moving bar indication.

The Power Control.
When rotated clockwise the output power of the machine is increased.
-Note that if the power control is set at minimum for 5 minutes the machine will switch Off to conserve battery power.

CHARGING AND BATTERY LIFE

Unlike a car battery which progressively weakens as it is discharged, the type of battery used in the El Toro 3 maintains full output power until it is almost completely discharged.
-This has the advantage that the machine operates normally until eventually the battery is fully discharged.

The battery can be expected to give many years of service and it's service life can be enhanced by following the advice below:
-After the machine has been used connect it to the charger for 16 hours or more if the battery was fully discharged. This may be after processing 40 or more animals.
-Although the battery cannot over-charge a shorter period on charge is entirely sufficient when the machine was used for only a few animals.
-If the machine is not in use it should be charged for up to 12 hours about every 4 weeks. Particularly for seasonal users this is an important consideration.

If the machine is switched on during the charging process the battery will charge only very slowly - unless the power control is set at minimum in which case the machine will switch Off after 5 minutes and then charge normally.

The machine may be used while connected to the charger but the battery will still run down as the charger capacity cannot support use of the machine.

USE OF THE El Toro 3 EJACULATOR

These notes are intended to provide the user with the basic guidance necessary for obtaining ejaculation using the El Toro 3.

Bulls
The lower the level of stress the animal experiences, the easier it is to obtain good results quickly.

Stress avoidance starts with the herding process which should be done in a calm unhurried manner.

Introduction to the crush and restraint should also be done as gently as possible and if the animal has become excited a few minutes settling in time should be allowed.

Used with care and sensitivity to the animal's responses the El Toro 3 will not give rise to unnecessary stress.

Ensure that the El Toro 3 power control is set to minimum. If the machine is already switched On ensure that Mode 1 is selected.

Connect the probe to the El Toro 3. Lubricate well and insert into the anus pointing the tip slightly downwards so as to displace matter which may otherwise accumulate beneath the contact strips and impair signal transfer to the animal.

Turn the El Toro 3 On (if not already in the on state).

Slowly and smoothly advance the power control a small amount while observing the animal. Avoid sudden movement of the power control which would startle the animal.

Reduce power to minimum and after a few seconds repeat the process. It will be found that as the animal becomes accustomed to the stimulation progressively higher power can be used in the same manner.

It will be found that when the maximum power used is approximately one third of the bar graph this power level can be held for a few seconds and seminal fluid will be produced.
-If the purpose is health testing this is of little interest, but if breeding samples are being obtained this fluid will only weaken the semen sample and should not be collected.

In the same cyclic manner increase the power used and at a point where the bar graph indicates about half way or a little more the animal will exhibit substantial muscular tension.
-Holding the power at this level for a few seconds will usually produce the semen sample.

At the time of ejaculation maintain or even slightly increase the power for a few seconds to obtain the best sample.

If success has not been achieved from the above, continue and work the animal up to higher power levels and try again for a semen sample.

It is in the higher power levels of Mode 1 that the computer will smoothly commence to modify the nature of the signals.
-In the power area from near the end of the bar graph to the full rotation of the power control the change is more in the nature of the signal than an actual increase in the output power.

In the rare cases where no proper sample has been obtained from the above procedure let the animal rest for a few minutes.

Start again using Mode 1 and having again acclimatised the animal to the stimulation select Mode 2 and continue as before.

If you find it necessary to use power levels in the last one quarter of the bar graph indication then:
1)Try reinserting the probe guiding it in a downward direction
2) Apply pressure on the probe horns to tilt the probe tip downwards
3) Manually remove faeces from the rectum and
4) Be aware that the animal will tire quickly and should be allowed to rest.

Rams
Rams seldom present any particular difficulty and are handled in the following manner.

Connect the optional ram probe to the El Toro 3.

Switch On and set a power level between one third and half, You will develop your own preference after some experience of the process.

You may prefer Mode 1 or Mode 2 after some experience with the process.

With the ram held between your legs and facing backwards, insert the ram probe onto the anus with the contact strips facing down.

The depth of insertion needed may vary somewhat from animal to animal and is easily established by moving the probe for best results.

With moderate pressure angle the probe tip downwards.

Push the handle mounted switch on the probe in a rhythmic pattern - a few seconds On and a few seconds Off.

Ejaculation would normally occur after 4 to 6 cycles.

USE OF THE El Toro 3 IMMOBILISER
BASIC IMMOBILISATION OF THE HIND QUARTERS

This function is for immobilising the hind quarters of bulls only.

It is essential to use only sufficient power to immobilise and to observe the animal carefully.

Insert and connect the bull probe in the same way as described for ejaculation.

Ensure the power control is set at minimum.

Switch On and select Mode IMOB.

Advance the power control just sufficiently to achieve immobilisation. Reduce power if breathing becomes problematic.

Immobilisation for longer than 15 minutes should be approached with caution and vigilance to ensure the health of the animal.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

The control unit can be cleaned with a damp cloth and household detergent such as Sunlight Liquid or Handy Andy. Do not use chemicals.

The probes can be cleaned with any normal detergent or disinfectant. If the contact strips become dull polish with plastic scouring abrasive or fine grade water paper keeping both the paper and contact strips wet while polishing.

Avoid wetting the switch mounted in the handle of the optional ram probe.

WARRANTY

The El Toro 3 is covered by our standard 12 month warranty providing both free parts and labour on our premises.

Consequential loss or damage as well as misuse or abuse of the equipment is excluded.
